The Defiant Spruce

A remarkable Sitka spruce that has earned the nickname "Tree of Life" because it continues to thrive despite having nearly all of its extensive root system exposed by relentless coastal erosion. Suspended over a cavernous hollow in the sandy bluff, the tree's tenacious grip on the remaining soil and its ability to defy nature's logic make it a symbol of resilience and a popular, almost mystifying, natural wonder.
